Live Music returns to State St. Area – Sort Of
Quaker Steak & Lube at the corner of Gorham and State, formerly occupied by Pizzeria Uno, has been quietly running music events on Thursdays. The management tells me they have discontinued because it is just too loud in the wide open space that the establishment is. (Plus, I’m sure those metal vehicles hanging from the rafters cause some pretty shrill reflections!) They are having Lucas Cates and hi sbnad on November 11, however. It may be possible to persuade them to book smaller duos and quieter ensembles.
Rumor has it that The Whiskey River Saloon (formerly the Pub) on State St. is also looking to do live music and they actually did have a few to celebrate “Rocktober.” Maybe the mechancial bull “got broke.” On November 21st (and every month thereafter) they will hold a Prohibition Party and sell 21 cent taps and rails. Is that legal? Maybe they could start a movement to lower the drinking age to nineteen. That would be the best thing to ever happen to live music since 1987.
