King Street Live Kicks Off This Week
What started out as a funky experiment has turned into one of the most popular music series in the city. King Street Live, which is presented by the Majestic Theater, begins this week with rising alternative band tUnE-yArDs along with fellow New Englanders Speedy Ortiz and Minneapolis multi-instrumentalist Dosh.
The location is just outside the theater doors on King Street in a gorgeous summer evening setting. Gates open at 6 pm. The amply raised stage gives thousands a great view of the performers while the bands get a great view of the lit-up state capitol. The best part? Oh yeah, it’s free! Seriously, this is one fun party and even a few local acts get in on the revelry. The Family Business will open for Cracker on July 25th along with fellow Wisconsinites Hugh Bob and the Hustle, who hail from Butternut. Count This Penny will open for the popular folk-rock band The Head and The Heart along with Chicago garage-pop rockers Bare Mutant on September 19th.
In a reggae spectacular, La Crosse’s Tugg will also open for Ziggy Marley on August 8th.
On August 27th it’s more alternative rock with Deer Tick who will appear with the Weeks and Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas.
This will be the fourth run for the music series which began as an end-of summer celebration and has expanded to five nights of concerts that showcase both established and rising national acts.
