Throughout State Street — from the Square to Library Mall
The Literacy Network is a non-profit organization made up of teachers, students, tutors, volunteers and donors all working together to improve adult literacy in Dane County.
Each year, more than 500 volunteers teach reading, writing and speaking skills to over 1,200 Madison-area adults and families. The skills learned here help adults live a more productive life and build stronger connections in the community.
The organization could use your help to spread the word. Sign up and help them “Busk for Books!” Bring your musical talents to the sidewalks of State Street for a couple hours on Saturday, April 20 and help raise awareness and funds for this important program — all the while helping to promote Madison’s rich music scene.
If you are interested in performing or volunteering, click here to sign up today!
If you are interested in sponsoring a performer by matching the donations they collect, contact Linda at (608) 244-3911 or linda@litnetwork.org
Last year the event raised a little more than $2,800 for adult literacy programs. This year let’s help them DOUBLE THAT! The event will coincide with the first outdoor Dane County Farmer’s Market on the Square, bringing hundreds of visitors to the State Street area. You’ll have a big audience for your songs and you’ll be helping spread the word for a great cause.
Buskers will be asked to perform for two hours or split their corner with another busker, each playing an hour.
The event is for all-acoustic music — no amplification is allowed. Please remember to follow the City of Madison guidelines.
