Anna Vogelzang is thrilled to announce this holiday show, which she curated to support the Second Harvest Food Bank of Madison. Earlier this year, Vogelzang released the full-length album Canary In A Coal Mine on Paper Anchor Records. A fully crafted folk-pop album complete with poetic ballads, plucky banjos, shimmering strings and Vogelzang’s warm yet commanding voice, Canary In A Coal Mine has been met with warm reviews since its release this past February. Wading in with a 9 out of 10 review, Pop Matters praised the “the exquisite lyrical craftsmanship on Canary in a Coal Mine,” which “is matched by Vogelzang’s incredible vocal range, evoking everyone from Regina Spektor to Ani DiFranco, shifting between delicate lilt and evocative howl at will.” Performer Magazine describes the album as “varied and jubilant,” showcasing a “voice that can knock down a listener, clashing from a sweet, nearly conversational tone into a confident country-girl howl.”
Count This Penny is an Appalachian pop band based in Madison, Wisconsin, by way of East Tennessee. They write songs born of doggedly traveling to and from the hills of home. Since their first show at the Down Home’s Open Hoot in 2009, CTP has appeared on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion, Wisconsin Public Radio, Wisconsin Public Television, and WDVX’s Blue Plate Special. Following their national radio debut in March, their EP hit the #6 spot on the iTunes singer-songwriter chart.
Whitney Mann is an old soul with a child’s glow. Her story is only beginning. It’s the story of a poetic farm girl from Michigan who grew up to open for Loretta Lynn. It’s the story of a young woman whose voice will break your heart but whose songs will bring you back for more.
