Safety Last at The Brink Lounge 09/28/2012

Safety Last at the Brink LoungeLast Friday was my first official “dad’s night out” since having our son in July, and it was spent hanging out downtown at The Brink Lounge for an evening with Safety Last.

If you haven’t heard of Safety Last, I highly recommend checking them out. The band consists of Garreth Paul (vocals/guitar), John Henry (violin), Christo Ruppenthal (guitar), Greg Smith (clarinet) and Mike Stein (bass). They played an evenly balanced mix of originals and covers, including Georgia on My Mind and a song from Hank Williams (the original Hank!).

For anyone who knows me, my primary genres of choice are heavier or dance-ier. Safety Last classifies themselves as “Western Swing”, so this was a huge (but welcomed) change of pace and it provided the perfect soundtrack for me and my drink.

To learn more about Safety Last, or to listen to some of their sample tracks, check out their official Safety Last Facebook page.
