(2009   Self-Release)

Madison is well known for its vibrant American-style electronic music scene, and Butt Funnel (pronounced “boot foonel” in their, uh, “native” German tongue) aren’t happy about this.

On Subliminal Boner (their boners are often not so subliminal if you’ve seen them live) they express their displeasure for how watered-down they think electro / EBM has become here, and they retaliate by shoving some of their, uh, “authentic” German dance music down our throats.

Their kinky German-accented singer preaches about how to handle bad days (“Hit Ze Wife”) and their iconoclastic views of religion (“you’re always turning water into wine / you have a problem you’re still denying”, from the song “Silly Jesus”).  Beyond the abundant dick and poop jokes are some very infectious grooves that Spinal Tap or Kompressor would be proud of:  rock guitars fused with keyboards, interjected occasionally with shamelessly stolen samples from the likes of New Order.

I wouldn’t be surprised to hear them spun at a local dance club like the Inferno or the Cardinal.   You had best consider grabbing a copy of this CD, for as the track “We Have Your Babies” demonstrates, they have ways of getting what they want.
